The Board of Directors Nick Tanquiy – Chair Nick Tanquiy was educated in electrical engineering at the University of Waterloo, and in Administrative Studies at York University. He is also certified as Lead Auditor in the ISO9000 Quality System. His work experience has included senior management positions in electronics manufacturing, medical device manufacturing and mobile communications companies. He also has experience in quality systems consulting. Nick’s volunteer work has included tutoring with the Georgina Literacy Centre. He began serving on the Board of The Georgina Association for Business in 1993 and was a founding member of the Board of South Lake CFDC when it was formed in 2004. He serves on the Employment Development, Community Economic Development and Administration Committees. Terry Russell - Vice-Chair Terry Russell was educated in business at The University of Western Ontario and has been employed in sales and marketing, primarily in the electronics and wireless communications industry, since graduation. Although a resident of Sharon he currently is employed as the National Sales Manager for a US based wireless communications company. Mr. Russell is a former Chair of the East Gwillimbury Business Development Committee and still holds a seat on that committee. He joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2007. He serves on the Community Economic Development and Administration Committees. Paul Nicholls – Treasurer Paul Nicholls has been employed in the computer industry his entire career. He has been President of his own company and since selling that has worked in a variety of senior sales and marketing positions with other companies in that industry. Beyond this Mr. Nicholls has had a substantial involvement with public service and volunteering. He is a former member of the Georgina Municipal Council and has experience with senior positions on a wide variety of volunteer Boards including the Georgina Public Libraries, Pefferlaw Lions Community Centre Hall, Georgina Cares Fund, the Georgina Minor Baseball Association and Toastmasters. Mr. Nicholls joined the Board of The Georgina Association for Business in 2001 and was a founding member of the Board of South Lake CFDC when it was formed in 2004. He serves on the Administration Committee which he chairs. Anne Pegg – Secretary Anne Pegg has lived in rural Uxbridge or Georgina all of her life. A teacher by profession she spent her career teaching in the public school system in Georgina and has been a long time volunteer on a variety of community development and environmental projects. She is a Founding Member of the Family Selection/Partnering Committee for Habitat for Humanity York Region and in 2001 chaired the first home build in Georgina. She is also past Chair of the York Simcoe Trillium Foundation. She currently serves on the Board of the Alliance for a Better Georgina and Georgina Trades Training Inc. where she was a founding member and the South Shore Community Broadband where she is the Chair. Past honours have included Georgina Citizen of the Year, York Region Woman of the Year and Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee Medal. Mrs. Pegg joined the Board of The Georgina Association for Business in 2002 and was a founding member of the Board of South Lake CFDC when it was formed in 2004. She serves on the Community Economic Development Committee which she chairs. Buck Etherington - Past Chair Buck Etherington has been a resident of Georgina since 1970. He had 23 years of banking experience, both in Scotland and Canada, prior to opening his own business, Etherington Insurance Brokers Ltd., in 1973. His volunteer and community experience has included work with the Georgina Family Life Centre, the Richmond Hill Credit Counselling Service, the Kinsmen and the Sutton Curling Club. More recently he has represented the South East Region on the Board of the Ontario Association of Community Futures Development Corporations. Buck joined the Board of The Georgina Association for Business in 1987 and assumed the position of Chair of the organization in 1997. He was a founding member of the Board of South Lake CDC, and its first Chair, when it was formed in 2004. He serves on the Employment Development, Community Economic Development and Administration Committees. Christine Dukelow – Director Christine Dukelow spent virtually her entire career in the field of rural economic development with the Ontario government. Her work ranged from program delivery to policy development and, just prior to her recent retirement, she held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister for the Rural Development Division, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. In 2007 she established her own Beaverton-based consultancy focused on rural development and government relations. She recently served as the Project Coordinator for Brock Township’s Business Retention and Expansion Project. An active volunteer, she serves as a Trustee on the Ontario 4-H Foundation and a Board Member on The Ontario Rural Council (TORC). She also chairs the Rural Health Working Group for TORC. She is a past chair of the Centre for Rural Leadership and continues to assist the board with a number of initiatives. She joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2008. She serves on the Community Economic Development Committee. Bill Foster – Director Bill Foster has spent his entire career in banking. He has branch level experience with two different Canadian chartered banks and senior management experience with a commercial bank. For over twenty years he has worked in a senior position with a provincial crown corporation which provides deposit insurance for Ontario’s credit unions and caisses populaires. Mr. Foster joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2008. He serves on the Employment Development Committee. Jim Gray – Director Jim Gray has a varied business background having held senior management positions with manufacturing and electrical engineering companies. He also has experience as a commercial lender and currently operates a company which provides small to medium sized power generation solutions. Mr. Gray joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2009. He serves on the Employment Development Committee. Carl Mount – Director Carl Mount is a long time resident of East Gwillimbury where he operates a well known and successful automotive service business through which he has gained a solid understanding of small business management. His previous community involvement has included serving on the East Gwillimbury Trails Committee. Mr. Mount joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2004. He serves on the Employment Development Committee, which he chairs. Al Mitchell – Director Al Mitchell is a professional accountant with business experience in the transportation, manufacturing and public sectors. He has previous involvement with the CFDC program as he served 3 terms, 2 as the chair, as a volunteer Board member of a Community Futures organization in Atlantic Canada. He relocated to Ontario a number of years ago and he is actively involved in the management of a family owned business. Mr. Mitchell joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2009. He serves on the Employment Development Committee. Marshall Pyatt – Director Marshall Pyatt’s background is in finance having worked in senior financial positions in multi-national corporations. He also has considerable international business experience have run operations in Japan and Korea. He returned to Canada several years ago settling first in Beaverton, where he has been involved in community activities including the Lions Club and now in Georgina. Mr. Pyatt joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2008. He serves on the Employment Development, Community Economic Development and Administration Committees. David Rhead – Director David Rhead is a Professional Engineer with over 20 years of management experience in the building materials industry with specific technical expertise developing high performance concrete. Mr. Rhead is ISO 9000 Lead Auditor Certified and has led numerous quality system implementations, including: ISO, Six Sigma, TQM, and Drinking Water Quality Management System. He currently works in the municipal sector as an Engineer and Project Manager. Mr. Rhead received his Civil Engineering degree from Waterloo University and subsequently earned an MBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business. Mr. Rhead joined the Board of South Lake CFDC in 2008. He serves on the Employment Development Committee.
The Staff Peter Budreo - General Manager Peter Budreo joined The Georgina Association for Business in 2001 and when that organization became South Lake CFDC in 2004 he became the General Manager of the new organization. He has over 25 years of small business, general management experience in both for profit and not for profit sectors to the position. Through his career he has also owned and operated his own small business and had a small business consulting practice. His economic development experience includes both local level, as well as, international initiatives. Mr. Budreo's undergraduate business studies were done at the University of Toronto and his graduate studies were completed at the Schulich School of Business at York University where he majored in Entrepreneurism and Strategic Planning. He has been a resident of East Gwillimbury since 1997. Beyond his employment Mr. Budreo has served on a variety of volunteer Boards through his career including a not-for-profit children’s summer camp, a fraternal organization, an alumni association and a number of sports associations and clubs. He is currently very involved with Scouting.
Elsa Georgas - EODP Officer Elsa Georgas joined the staff of South Lake CFDC in 2008 as an Intern to work in the management of the local delivery of the Eastern Ontario Development Program. She brought to the position several years of administrative experience with a Markham based organization. Her undergraduate communications degree was earned from York University. Ms. Georgas is a resident of Georgina.
Brian McGregor - Loans Officer Brian McGregor has spent his entire career in financial services with a Candian chartered bank. He has had branch lending and management positions at a variety of branches. He joined the staff of South Lake CFDC in 2006 and takes primary responsibility for the assessment of loan applications and the management of our loan portfolio. Mr. McGregor has been a long time resident of Beaverton where he has been involved with a number of community projects including the Trails Committee,
Susan Martin - Administrative Assistant Susan Martin has been a resident of Georgina since 1981 and joined the staff of The Georgina Association for Business in 1995 and when that organization became South Lake CFDC in 2004 she continued in her role with the new organization. She has over 25 years of experience related to her position. Through her years of employment with the organization her role and responsibilities have continually expanded. At the community level Susan has served as the president or vice president of several different amateur sports associations and has also served in senior volunteer positions at the local, regional and provincial level with a major international fraternal / benevolent organization. |
